Marc Perez an LA based multi-instrumentalist who utilizes composition, improvisation & his research of music, people & sound to create immersive and inclusive sonic experiences. Marc’s primary acoustic instrument training is on the trombone, a focus he utilizes especially in his solo improvisatory works as well as his jazz works.

Often known for his individualistic and emotion-evoking playing, Marc’s aim when heard on trombone is to channel his unique and creative voice through his experience’s in multiple pedagogies and facility the horn is capable of, rather than being a product of a specific lineage.

In regards to his compositional works, Marc utilizes an term he dubs “All-Inclusive Music”, which is an expanding and developing research of non normative music notation in combination with traditional western music notation mixing with elements of improvisation to create not only an accessible means of music information for performers from diverse backgrounds, but allowing for unique and repeatable desired musical outcomes. Marc’s music has been described by critics and colleagues alike as “overwhelmingly beautiful and emotive” and praised for his capacity to “channel the essence of community and humanity” in his music.

Marc is also an accomplished electronic sound artist, performing multiple times at SOUNDPEDRO as well as various art galleries and museums around the Los Angeles Area. Marc’s electronic work uses a combination of Max MSP, Sound Art, & Field Recordings.

Marc’s Jazz career includes credits with Grammy Winning Musicians as well as ties to communal and historic groups in LA’s Jazz history, such as The Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra.

He is a member of various other groups within the LA area, including his experimental jazz duo, “Frog n Toad” featuring Saxophonist Luka Jiang.

Marc received his undergraduate degree at UCLA in Jazz Studies under the tutelage of Arturo O’Farrill, Hitomi Oba & James Newton. He is currently enrolled at California Institute Of The Arts in their Performer-Composer MFA under the tutelage of Tim Feeney, Vinny Golia, Carolyn Chen & Mattie Barbier.
